Mega Fortris Berhad has always been conscientious of its use of plastics and plastic resins as the nature of its business is based on one-time use plastics. Therefore, we consistently looked at avenues to mitigate this issue by exploring improvements to its production processes and material inputs. We dedicate a significant portion of our design and development budget to exploring these options.

For this project, we are using two (2) types of recyclable materials:

i. External recycled plastic resins

Recycled resin usage was first tested in our production lines in February 2022 and we began rolling it out in January 2023. We have implemented a recycled material usage program with a minimum of 30% recycled material content in the production of our plastic seals. All of our products manufactured with recycled resin have undergone all internal and external testing to ensure the integrity and quality of the product is maintained and meets the required design and development for production approval. All of our security seals using recycled resin meet our standard functionality and quality benchmarks.

ii. Reduction in use of virgin materials (reuse of plastic runners)

Utilization of post-production by-products also known as runners has always been part of our sustainability initiative. Our Company has been using 80% of runners in our production process since February 2006 and has been monitoring the targets and quality of our products consistently on a monthly basis. We prioritize the utilization of runners generated from our injection molding process. These runners form a vital component of our standard input formula, allowing us to efficiently repurpose the runners generated from our manufacturing process. The combined total output for plastic seals using recycled material including runners is around 418 million pieces in 2023, 408 million pieces in 2022, and 407 million pieces in 2021.
