Timuran Kembangan Sdn Bhd’s (“TK”) “Responsible ReSourceLution” (“RR”) project is an innovative and comprehensive waste management initiative dedicated to transforming waste into valuable resources through responsible consumption that focuses on two key areas: the distribution and use of light fuel oil (LFO), and the recycling of used cooking oil.

The project aims to revolutionise waste management practices by promoting sustainable consumption, reducing environmental impact, and fostering a circular economy.

Responsible Waste Management: In the LFO segment, TK has emerged as the largest distributor of this cleaner-burning fuel in Sarawak, Malaysia. By promoting the use of LFO in industrial and commercial boiler systems, TK helps its customers improve the reliability and performance of their equipment while reducing environmental impact. LFO’s high efficiency and low emissions make it a more sustainable energy solution than heavier fuels and coal.

TK collects used cooking oil from restaurants and food service businesses, preventing it from entering and damaging municipal sewer systems. By implementing advanced recycling technologies, the project ensures that these oils are effectively collected, processed, and repurposed into valuable products, such as biodiesel and industrial lubricants.

The used oil is then converted into biofuel, a renewable energy source that can reduce carbon emissions by up to 90% compared to petroleum-based fuels. Through this holistic approach to waste management, TK is driving positive change in the region, contributing to a cleaner, more efficient, and more sustainable future.

Sustainable Impact and Innovation: The project, by converting waste into valuable resources, “RR”, supports economic growth and job creation within the recycling industry. The initiative also aligns with broader environmental goals and with the goals of SDG 12, such as those outlined by Malaysian authorities, which emphasise reducing environmental impact through proper disposal of used cooking oil and other waste products.
